Maine's Susan Collins wins 5th Senate term

In a heated battle in Maine, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins came out on top.

The historic fifth term win for the incumbent Tuesday ended with voters split after Collins initially trailed House Speaker Sara Gideon, D-Freeport in every poll.

Collins’ joined several GOP candidates in over performing expectations across in Senate races across the country, indicating that the party will likely maintain its stronghold in the chamber even if Biden is elected president.

Collins’ tenure will be the longest by a Maine senator.
