
America’s oldest living person has died.
Bessie Laurena Hendricks lived through a number of world-changing events since her birth in 1907.
A former teacher, Hendricks witnessed the sinking of the Titanic and lived through both World Wars, as well as the Great Depression and two worldwide pandemics.
At the time of her death, Hendricks was 115 and residing at a senior care facility in Lake City, Iowa.
With her death, Hendricks passes the mantle of oldest living American to 114-year-old California resident Edie Ceccarelli, according to officials at the Gerontology Research Group.
