NEW YORK (Audacy) — Pete Buttigieg and his husband, Chasten, are becoming parents.
The U.S. transportation secretary announced the news Tuesday on Twitter, saying that the couple is still going through the adoption process.
“For some time, Chasten and I have wanted to grow our family. We’re overjoyed to share that we’ve become parents!” he tweeted.
“The process isn’t done yet and we’re thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can’t wait to share more soon.”
Buttigieg met Chasten, a junior high school teacher, on the dating app Hinge back in 2015. They wedded in June 2018, as Pete was serving as the mayor of South Bend.
The Biden cabinet member has spoken openly about wanting to become a father.
“I’d like to think I’d be the cool dad, but I’m sure the reverse is true,” Buttigieg joked in 2020. “But I think I’ll just focus on being a good one.”
