A consumer watchdog organization announced Wednesday they made a troubling discovery about a popular children's snack.
Veggie puffs manufactured by Lesser Evil and Serenity Kids were found to have "concerning levels" of "lead or other heavy metals," according to the release by Consumer Reports.
Lesser Evil's Lil' Puffs Intergalactic Voyager Veggie Blend puffs registered more lead per serving than any other baby food tested by the organization since 2017.
"We think kids should consume less than half a serving a day of those," James E. Rogers, head of food safety testing at Consumer Reports said in a statement.
Disconcerting levels of metal were also found in both Lesser Evil's Lil' Puffs Sweet Potato Apple Asteroid puffs and Serenity Kids' Tomato & Herb Bone Broth puffs.
Consumer Reports suggests limiting those to 1 ½ servings per day.
Consumption of lead by children has been linked to several developmental issues and other disabilities.
