Following the tragedy during the opening night of the Astroworld music festival in Houston, TX on Friday night resulting in the loss of eight lives, numerous hospitalizations, and hundreds of injuries, headliner Travis Scott has canceled his scheduled performance at Day N Vegas on November 13, and has offered refunds to all Astroworld ticketholders.

Questions remain surrounding what amounted to a stampede towards Scott's custom stage following SZA's set at NRG Park. Scott's show apparently continued on even after promoters recognized a "mass casualty event," which led to multiple cardiac arrests, one officer apparently being stabbed with a needle, and numerous other injuries.

According to reports, Scott is currently “too distraught to play,” while in a Tweet the Houston-born rapper said he is "committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need."

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner has defended the decision to let Scott's show run its course, saying that stopping it short could have caused a riot, although extra precautions were in place this year after his 2019 festival where three people had been trampled.

Scott had made attempts to calm the crowd, which topped 50,000 on Friday, even as an ambulance made its way through the sea of people. In an Instagram story posted Saturday, Scott said he “could never imagine this situation... Any time I can make out anything that’s going on, I’d stop the show and help them get the help they need, you know?”

Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston said in a Facebook post on Saturday that, to his knowledge, the festival at NRG Park was the only time in 40 years that loss of life occurred at a large event in the city. A 14 and 16-year-old were among the eight fatalities. At a press conference, Turner said, “This incident is being thoroughly investigated and reviewed. It is important for us to ascertain, from last night, what took place, what happened, where missteps may have occurred.”
