PITTSBURGH (KDKA Radio) — According to multiple reports, Pennsylvania Democratic U.S. Sen. John Fetterman and his wife, Gisele Fetterman, were involved in a car accident on Interstate 70 in Maryland on Sunday.
According to a spokesperson, the senator was taken to a local hospital “out of an abundance of caution” and treated for a bruised shoulder. He was released Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, Fetterman was driving a vehicle when it hit the rear of another vehicle. Both were traveling west on I-70.
Fetterman’s office says that he and Gisele are back at their home in Braddock, near Pittsburgh.
Fetterman is also expected to be in Washington, D.C., for voting this week.
Fetterman, 54, experienced a stroke in May 2022 as he was campaigning for his seat. As a result, he still has some trouble speaking fluidly and quickly processing spoken conversation, and he often uses devices in congressional hearings and routine conversations to transcribe spoken words in real time.
