PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 22-year-old was shot outside Temple University’s Liacouras Center Friday evening during a suspected road rage incident.
Deputy Commissioner John Stanford says an argument between two drivers broke out by Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue just after 5:30 p.m.
“Both vehicles brandished firearms and began … shooting at each other's vehicle,” Stanford said.
The 22-year-old woman was a passenger inside one of the cars and was grazed in the knee by a bullet. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
A coach bus near the scene was struck in the crossfire. No one was injured.
Police say two guns were recovered and both drivers were taken into custody.
"I don't know how many rounds, but I mean, in the middle of rush hour, very lucky it was only one individual injured out of this," Stanford said.
Stanford said as police investigated that shooting, a crowd of juveniles formed just up the street to watch a fight.
“Our officers, again, being here on location, began to try to break up that fight at which point in time led to officers being involved in a foot pursuit, ultimately leading to the officers recovering a firearm in that incident.”
Three juveniles were arrested.
