New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill signed a bill into law on Monday that protects renters from inflated rent prices.
Under the law, landlords are prohibited from using algorithms to determine rental rates.
Sherrill says housing affordability is one of the biggest issues the people of New Jersey face, and landlords should be competing to offer the lowest prices rather than colluding to artificially increase costs for renters.
The governor says the state will use every tool it can to bring costs down.
