Cellphone use will soon be banned in schools in Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Senate has passed a “bell-to-bell” ban, sending it to the governor’s desk. Gov. Josh Shapiro said he intends to sign it, adding, “It’s time to get back to the basics in school and let our kids be kids.”
The bill prohibits students from using cellphones throughout the day on school property. It will be up to individual schools to decide whether kids can keep their phones on them or if staff will collect them. There are exceptions in the bill for students with medical issues, or if a student needs a phone to assist with instruction.
