The best free restaurant bread in the country is right here in Philadelphia, says Atlantic writer

You don't have to travel far to taste the best free restaurant bread in America. It's at Parc in Rittenhouse, so says The Atlantic. Writer Caity Weaver describes the cranberry walnut loaf as "a very chewy sourdough, with a thick, crispy crust." She says its "oats and nuts check the suavity" of the sweet dried cranberries "before it runs amok." She continues that the bread "has an Everlasting Gobstopper–ish ability to harmoniously convey the sensation of eating an entire meal, with dessert, in every bite." Weaver should know -- she logged 13,000 miles across the country, consuming no-cost carbs for this assignment. Parc owner Stephen Starr told her the kitchen bakes 200 cranberry walnut loaves each day. And that's just part of the free bread program there, which Starr estimates costs the restaurant about half a million dollars a year. (Photo by Jumping Rocks/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)
