COLUMBIA, IL (KMOX) - A mother and daughter were able to safely hug in a COVID safe way, thanks to the Arms of Love.

It's a plexiglass booth with vinyl gloves created by a senior care facility in Columbia, Ill.

There was an outbreak of COVID-19 at Garden Place Senior Living earlier this year. There were 38 cases back in the spring and 11 residents died.

After that, residents were confined to their rooms. The facility hasn't reported any more cases since April.

The executive director and her husband thought up the contactless hug contraption after seeing residents who missed physical contact so badly.

Hugs need to be scheduled and the Arms of Love will be sanitized between each embrace.

When Arms of Love was finished, there was a big car parade with fire trucks all driving past the facility to say hello to the residents.
