The list of witnesses for the murder and manslaughter trial of Derek Chauvin, charged in the death of George Floyd in 2020, is now public and has nearly 400 names on it. The list includes the three former officers who were with Chauvin when he kneeled on Floyd's neck until he lost consciousness and died.
Also on the list are Floyd's brother and Darnella Frazier, the woman who recorded the act on her cellphone.
Frazier is among a handful of witnesses called by both prosecutors and defense attorneys, as well as Minneapolis Police Chief Maderia Arradondo and
Fire Chief Brian Tyner.
The defense team's witnesses include Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents, police officers, and expert witnesses from law enforcement and medicine.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin in just under four weeks, and the trial is scheduled to start March 8. Minnnesota Gov. Tim Walz has already activated the national guard in anticipation of unrest.
Chauvin's trial was separated from those of fellow former officers J. Alexander Kueng, Tou Thao and Thomas Lane, who'll be tried starting Aug. 23 on aiding and abetting charges.
