ELVIS is the long-awaited biopic from Luhrmann, who directed films such as Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliet. The film already has a star-studded cast as Austin Butler will play Elvis, Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley, and Tom Hanks will star as Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ manager.

On February 17th, the first trailer for the film dropped and it packs an intense punch. ELVIS chronicles the life and career of Presley, from his origins in Mississippi, his formative years in Memphis, and his ascent to stardom, the film touches on all aspects of Presley’s life and career.

“The film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks),” Warner Bros. writes in the trailer’s description.

ELVIS will dig deep into “the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker” that spanned over 20 years. Aside from his music, Warner Bros. notes that Presley’s stardom will be “set against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.”

“Central to that journey,” the description continues, “is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).”

The film will also feature several acclaimed artists playing various musicians in the film. Singer/songwriter Yola will play the role of Sister Rosetta Tharpe while guitarist Gary Clark Jr. will play the role of Arthur Crudup. ELVIS will be released in theaters on June 24th.
