Things got emotional during the 36-year-old’s final residency performance at Vegas’ Caesars Palace on Saturday night as she said goodbye to the stage and reflected on some of her fondest memories as well as tough times.
As many fans will remember, Adele's residency was originally scheduled to start in January 2022, but she pulled the plug 24 hours before the first show citing production staff and an unfinished set as the reasons why.
"I was told it was career suicide and that Vegas would never forgive me for doing something so last minute,” she shared Saturday as she stood on stage for her 100th show at the Colosseum. “Had I done that show that I canceled, I certainly wouldn't be standing here tonight during my 100th show in the Colosseum."
She went on to recognize those closest to her, including finacè, Rich Paul, and son, Angelo who she says influenced her decision to do a Las Vegas residency most. She also reflected on some of her most impactful moments including the tearful embrace she shared with Celine Dion at a show a few weeks ago.
"I got closure when Celine Dion came to my show a few weeks ago. I cried for a whole week,” she expressed, alluding to the fact that she is stepping away from the spotlight. Adele shared her decision to step back at a show in Vegas.
A fan captured the 36-year-old expressing her plans to take a hiatus during a show over the weekend in Munich, Germany and posted the video to TikTok. Adele can be heard saying,
"I have 10 shows to do, but after that I will not see you for an incredibly long time, and I will hold you dear in my heart," Adele told the crowd back in September. “I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after this [Las Vegas Residency] and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while. I don’t like being famous. I love that I get to make music all the time.”
What exactly those “other creative things,” are? We don’t know yet, but perhaps she’s also looking forward to putting some more focus on her personal life now as she also announced at an earlier show in Munich, that she is engaged to longtime boyfriend, Rich Paul.
At her Saturday show, Adele reiterated she has no idea what her future on stage looks like, but shared she is grateful for the time she’s had thus far. "I am so sad that this residency is over but I'm so glad that it happened."
