The singer took to Instagram to share the news of her forthcoming 10th album, posting the project’s cover art alongside the following message — “So grateful that my 13 tracks came together with my beautiful work between Luke Jack and Drew Erickson amongst others,” she began.
“Happy for you to hear a few songs coming up before Stagecoach,” she added, before revealing the album’s debut single will be “Henry,” referencing her track she’s referred to as, “Henry Come On,” which Del Rey has been teasing since January.
Like many others — celeb and otherwise — influenced by all the trendy Country music cowboy aesthetic vibes that have made its way to the forefront of pop culture in the last couple of years, Del Rey had initially planned for her next album to weave those elements into her already folky sound.
“If you can’t already tell by our award winners and our performers, the music business is going country… We’re going country,” Del Rey said at a Billboard pre-GRAMMY event earlier this year. “It’s happening. That’s why Jack has followed me to Muscle Shoals, Nashville, Mississippi, over the last four years.”
Then in May, Del Rey told NME the album wouldn’t be as “self-revealing,” and that fans should expect “maybe more American Songbook style.”
Later clarifying the sonic vision she had for the album during an interview with Vogue in August. Lana said, “All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana… so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure.” Adding, “If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production — which again, so many of my songs already are.”
However, after September came and went, and Lasso was nowhere to be heard, Del Rey provided an update while walking the red carpet at the InStyle Imagemaker Awards in October.
Giving off subtle vibes that fully jumping on the country bandwagon no longer felt novel, Lana told People, “I think all the songs have been Americana and I want to wait to see what the musical atmosphere feels like. ‘Cause I don’t usually feel like I need a pause in the creation process, but if there’s a literal energetic pause that almost feels like physical, then I have to wait and I don’t know why. So I’ll have to see if it’s because of something someone’s done or because it’s gonna take a turn.”
Lana also noted her desire to take her time and not rush the project, saying, “The songs I have, I love, so I don’t want to turn it into something that’s half cooked, even if it’s super stripped back. I want it to be what it was supposed to be.”
That being said, even with a different name, The Right Person Will Stay will likely still serve up some country à la Lana vibes, as the singer not only worked with longtime collaborators Jack Antonoff and Drew Erickson, but also with country producer Luke Laird. Who’s written 20 No. 1 Billboard hits, and worked with the likes of Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, and Eric Church.
In addition to announcing the follow-up to her 2023 album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Lana also revealed the dates for her 2025 U.K. and Ireland Stadium tour. Which is set to kick off in Wales on June 23 and conclude in London on July 3.
