The Foo Fighters just dropped a new song this morning called "Today's Song," which comes almost 30 years to the day since the band's self-titled debut on July 4, 1995.

This marks their first new original music since 2023's 'But Here We Are' album that followed the death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins. The band has recently been sharing old content leading up to the 30th anniversary and just a few days ago released a cover of Minor Threat's "I Don't Wanna Hear It," which had instrumentals recorded in 1995 and vocals done in 2025.

No word yet on who played drums on the track since their most recent member Josh Freese announced in May that he is no longer in the band, and a statement from the band reads "Foo Fighters are Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee" with no mention of another drummer.

In a note posted to the band's website this morning (which you can listen to Dave Grohl read below), Grohl opens up about the story of how the Foo Fighters came together, which involved a Ouija board and a Thanksgiving feast at his house. He also includes a note thanking former members and a heartfelt message to Hawkins.

"It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen," pens Grohl. "And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination."

Dave concluded the note with a message of gratitude. "It has been 30 years since I sat beside Nate Mendel with my hands on that Ouija board (and the last time I ever touched one) but I now realize that there was no way to predict what was to become of our lives that night. And just as I was that stormy Thanksgiving evening in 1994, I am still grateful for life, love, music, and the mystery of where this path may lead us next. Let’s keep moving."
