The creator of Netflix's most popular original series to date has given the green light to a second season.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator, writer, and director of "Squid Game," confirmed to the Associated Press this week that a new season of the nine-episode smash is on the way.

The show's popularity and fans' enthusiasm for the series prompted his decision. “There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season," he shared.

The first season of "Squid Game" centers around a tournament that tricks a financially vulnerable group of people into playing “deadly” children’s games. Contestants can win up to 45 billion South Korean won, or 38 million US dollars.

The “Hunger Games” style tournament involves bloody gunfire, obstacle courses that end in certain death, and barbaric fights for survival.

The second season is still in the "planning process," and the director did not reveal any further details about what fans can expect, nor when they could see new episodes, so don't go licking your Dalgona candy just yet.
