"It's so terrifying," Alex says of "Ordinary," as the song continues to shatter records, some held for over 30 years. "I don't know how to feel about it."
"I never thought I'd have one [hit], so I'm happy," Warren admits. "If I never have another one, I'm fine."
"It's been really cool to see people use it just for different things, you know, and I'm really stoked that people are using it for weddings, and walking down the aisle, and memorials. It's really cool."
His set at We Can Survive is Alex Warren's first arena show, and he continues to be in awe of the connection with the crowd after seeing the dizzying numbers across socials. "I think the biggest thing is when you make music, especially when you promote it on TikTok, that you don't see people. It's just numbers," he shares. "Every show, no matter what, I don't care how many, we just announced an arena tour and I will always be like, 'are there people here? Did they show up?' And so they're like, 'Yes, Alex, the people showed up,' and so it's always terrifying."
"It's been really cool to be able to meet people and see people and cry with people. It's been fun."
It just so happens one of the people at We Can Survive is Ed Sheeran, an artist Alex has long-shared his admiration for and is now pen pals with. "I email Ed all the time," says Warren. "I'm pretty sure I email him probably 4 times a week. I'm that annoying kid that you gave your phone number to, and then every day is texting you going, 'What's up? You want to hang out? You want to hang out? Let's do it.' And Ed just always goes, 'Cheers mate.'"
