Hilary Duff has some explaining to do.
"How I Met Your Father," the sequel series to "How I Met Your Mother," has been given a 10-episode series order from Hulu, and the former "Lizzie McGuire" star is at the helm.
The show will be set in the future as Duff's character Sophie explains to her son how she met his father in the year 2021. Of course, the show will address modern dating rituals like dating apps.
The show is created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger with original "How I Met Your Mother" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas as executive producers.
20th Television will be producing the show.
"'How I Met Your Mother' is a crown jewel in the 20th library and its fans have clamored for more ever since our final broadcast seven years ago," 20th Television president Karey Burke said in a statement. "Our genius producers Isaac and Elizabeth who are — wait for it — legendary within our halls, have created a spectacular new take which both honors the original and is entirely their own."
"Carter and Craig will return as executive producers," she continued, "and who better to star as the central character than the incredible Hilary Duff? Many thanks to Craig Erwich and everyone at Hulu Originals for loving the script as much as we did and to our fantastic team who helped put this all together. I could not be more excited. Let the speculation as to who the father is commence!"
Duff also took to Instagram with the news of her new role, saying, "I truly feel blessed, and I can't wait."
Duff, who stars in the TV Land show "Younger," was recently in production for a reboot series of the show "Lizzie McGuire" before it was canned due to creative differences.
