It's hard to believe, but today marks the 8 year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings. Obviously a moment that this community - and world - will not soon forget.
Lives taken too soon, others had their lives jarred and changed forever.
The horror of that day was met with incredible bravery and courage, converting sadness and anger into action, and showing each other that we are incredible when we work together.
Marathon runners, having just finished running a grueling 26.2 mile journey by foot, continuing their race to give needed blood. Every person arriving at a hospital for treatment surviving. The bravery of authorities hunting down those who shall not be named.
The strength, generosity and resiliency of Boston was put on full display for the world to see. Then President Obama saying "it should be pretty clear by now that they picked the wrong city to do it. Not here in Boston."
Ain't that the truth. Boston lifted itself up, with grit and frankly the tenacity to prove to the world we are as tough of an area as we say we are... and we did. And continue to do so.
David Ortiz's "flowery" megaphone announcement, survivor Celeste Corcoran's defiant twitter video while walking on two prosthetic legs, the incredible journey, and fight, and recovery of those who survived that terrible day - that is Boston. The toughest, brashest, and most caring community you could ever know.
Today, we remember the lives of Krystal Marie Campbell, Lu Lingzi, Martin William Richard and Officers Sean A. Collier and Dennis Simmonds who lost their lives on, or due to, the events of that day.
In the darkness of April 15th, 2013, there was incredible light with the acts of kindness performed at the site, and around the community. Something the city aims to mark every April 15th with Acts Of Kindness.
You can visit OneBostonDay.org to tweet your intentions to perform an act of kindness today, and you can even download a checklist to take out with your kid and make the world a better place.
This is our city. Celebrate it and all that make it great today.
