Over the last year, a number of necessities have disappeared from shelves as businesses deal with product shortages, and while most of these absences have come and gone, the latest one has many worried about the taste of their next meal.

A ketchup shortage has swept across the country, as many restaurants and fast food chains look to conserve the popular condiment.

America’s favorite condiment is the latest popular product to deal with a shortage, as the demand for takeout and the struggles of the food service industry over the last year have caused the price of ketchup to go up.

Prices for ketchup packets have gone up 13% since January 2020, according to Fox News. Heinz has remarked that it is taking efforts to address the problem, as the condiment giant said they will increase its production by around 25%, distributing over 12 billion packets per year.

For ketchup fans, this may be the most disappointing product shortage yet, as many have begun to look for alternatives. Some chains have even experimented with other tomato based condiments.

Hopefully, ketchup returns to shelves soon before people are forced to replace it with pasta sauce or salsa.
