The NFL Combine is officially open for business down in Indianapolis, and teams are talking with defensive linemen, edge rushers and linebackers first on Wednesday.

The Patriots aren’t wasting any time scoping out prospects, including one who might be the most intriguing edge rusher not named Will Anderson.

Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson told reporters at the Combine that met with the New England Patriots, via NESN’s Dakota Randall. Wilson is up there with Anderson and Jalen Carter as the top defensive linemen/edge defenders in this draft class and almost certainly won’t be available at No. 14 overall.

Still, think about how fun this Pterandon-esque wingspan would be on the Pats’ defensive line.

Among more attainable targets New England has met with are Northwestern defensive end Adetomiwa Adebawore and Iowa State EDGE Will McDonald, both of whom spoke with the team at the Senior Bowl.

In fact, McDonald played on the American team on which Patriots coach DeMarcus Covington served as defensive coordinator and talked about his up-close work with Covington in the film room at the podium Wednesday.

“It was a great honor to be around him. He thought me a lot of things, opened up a lot of things about the NFL that I didn’t know,” McDonald said of Covington’s coaching.

McDonald was one of the biggest standouts from the Senior Bowl, which is something the Patriots will value highly when it comes to the draft.

He, Wilson, Adebawore and the rest of the defensive line and linebacker class will take the field tomorrow for on-field workouts at the Combine.
