Brandon Aiyuk would be ‘an absolute banger of a game-changer’ for Patriots

Could the Patriots be on the verge of landing a true No. 1 wide receiver? News broke Monday night, courtesy of Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, that New England is one of two teams (along with the Cleveland Browns) that has the framework of a trade in place to acquire Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers.

The ball is now in Aiyuk’s court to decide if he is going to accept either team’s contract offer.

The Greg Hill Show reacted to the news Tuesday morning, and the crew was in agreement that the Patriots should be all-in on a player who could completely transform their offense.

“I am praying to the football gods that the Patriots are in and are going to land Brandon Aiyuk,” Greg Hill said. “It would be just an absolute banger of a game-changer.”

The 26-year-old Aiyuk has topped 1,000 yards receiving each of the last two seasons, including a career-high 1,342 yards last year on 75 catches, while also hauling in seven touchdowns.

“What is the deal going to be?,” Chris Curtis wondered. “Is it going to be a first-round pick? Is it going to be a second-round pick? I don't care at this point, because you have an opportunity to get a guy that you can build around with your offense. Everybody says the wide receivers have been popping. Well, now you get somebody to be the obvious number one, everybody falls in place behind them. It would be spectacular.”

Jermaine Wiggins said Aiyuk is exactly the kind of weapon the Patriots need to get for rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

“Most people believe that we're gonna see Drake Maye at some point in time, whether it's Week 6, Week 7, Week 8 during the season,” Wiggy said. “It just makes things a lot easier for him when he does become the quarterback of this team because they'll have a legitimate number one to be able to help him get out of some jams.”
