It was an emotional scene at TD Garden before Thursday night's Bruins-Oilers game, as Emily Cave, wife of the late Colby Cave, joined the teams for the ceremonial puck drop.

Colby Cave died on April 11, 2020, at the age of 25 four days after suffering a brain bleed and undergoing emergency surgery.

Cave spent parts of five seasons in the Bruins organization and parts of two with the Oilers. He played 23 NHL games with Boston from 2017-19 and 44 with Edmonton from 2019-20.

Thursday night marked the first time the two teams, whom Emily Cave has called their "two hockey families," played each other since Cave's death.

Cave shared long hugs with captains Patrice Bergeron and Connor McDavid before the puck drop, then hugged several more Oilers and every Bruin -- many of whom played with Cave either in the NHL or the minors -- on her way off the ice. Brad Marchand was last with one final emotional embrace.
