Former Patriots coach Bill Belichick is busy juggling numerous media gigs this fall, but despite how much he seems to be enjoying them, numerous reports have indicated that he still wants to return to coaching in 2025.
So, where could he end up? Boomer Esiason identified three possible landing spots during his weekly appearance on The Greg Hill Show Monday, and they’re all in the NFC East. Listen to the full interview above.
“I was thinking Dallas. I was thinking Philadelphia. I guess I’m thinking the Giants,” Esiason said. “…I was thinking any one of those three teams. Mike McCarthy [in Dallas] is a lame duck coach right now. He does not have a contract past this year. Very few coaches ever find themselves in that situation.
“So, that tells me if good ol’ Jerry Jones doesn’t get what he wants out of this team and doesn’t get to the playoffs – and right now I wouldn’t say that they’re an odds-on favorite to make it after their last two home games – I definitely could see Jerry Jones going down that road next year. So, there are plenty of places that will definitely interview Bill Belichick, I would think. But those are three places that I would have at the top of my list.”
As Esiason referenced, the Cowboys have lost back-to-back home games, getting blown out by New Orleans in Week 2 and falling behind 28-6 against Baltimore on Sunday before at least making things interesting in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles, like the Cowboys, have a talented roster that might appeal to Belichick, who probably won’t want to sign up for a rebuild. They are off to a 2-1 start, but have been playing some ugly football, and coach Nick Sirianni continues to come under fire for his in-game decision-making. The Eagles’ late-season collapse last year already had his seat warming.
“Nick Sirianni is one of the interesting guys to watch as a coach in this league, simply because that fanbase is very, very restless, and they’re fed up with the in-game decisions that he is making,” Esiason said.
