As of Monday morning, Bill Belichick is still the head coach of the New England Patriots. Various reports and rumors have suggested that may not be the case much longer, though. If a split were to happen, it sounds like one team that could be interested in Belichick is the Atlanta Falcons.
How will Kraft handle his meeting with Belichick?
The Falcons made the decision to move on from Arthur Smith after Sunday's humiliating loss to the New Orleans Saints and a third straight 7-10 season. Dianna Russini, who's a senior NFL Insider for The Athletic, is reporting Atlanta is a "team to watch" if Belichick and the Patriots part ways.
On Atlanta's 92.9 The Game, The Steakhouse morning show discussed the idea.
"You and I mentioned Bill Belichick, why not? They will 100 percent make that phone call," Drew Butler exclaimed.
"If you're not at least talking to Bill Belichick," replied Steak Shapiro. "He hasn't had a great run post-Brady and he's made some bad decisions, OK? Do you think every Tom Brady Super Bowl was because of Tom Brady?"
The Patriots were one of the most dominant franchises in NFL history with the Brady-Belichick tandem, winning six Super Bowls, nine AFC Championships, and 17 AFC East titles. He is 16 wins away from passing Don Shula as the winningest coach in NFL history.
Despite the recent struggles, Belichick remains one of the most brilliant defensive coaches in the league today.
If the Patriots do decide to move on from the Hall of Fame coach, then there could be a host of franchises that have interest. The Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers, among possibly others, are in the market for a head coach.
