Jerry Remy is out of the hospital and on the road to recovery. The beloved Red Sox broadcaster was forced to leave the NESN booth during last Friday’s game after experiencing a shortness of breath.
He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was recuperating through Wednesday afternoon.
In a statement, Remy thanked everyone for their support. “He is thankful for the moral support from family, friends, and fans and is looking forward to being back in the broadcast booth soon,” it reads.
NESN has gone with a two-man booth featuring Dave O’Brien and Dennis Eckersley since Friday. The pair is currently calling the Red Sox’s series against the Braves.
Remy has experienced several health scares, including four cancer releases. He was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2008.
Remy has also battled depression, which he detailed during his last broadcast Thursday when Astros pitcher Zack Greinke was on the mound.
