It's been an interesting offseason for Jimmy Garoppolo.
The 29-year-old was mentioned in numerous trade rumors and then the 49ers traded up to No. 3 overall and selected quarterback Trey Lance. Despite his outstanding record with the 49ers, it feels like head coach Kyle Shanahan believes Garoppolo isn't the long-term answer for the organization at the position.
Appearing on The DA Show along with his dad Tony Tuesday, Garoppolo was asked about this offseason, including if he would have welcomed a return to the Patriots?
"I don't know. We never really got to cross that bridge," he said. "You never know where your path is going to take you in the NFL. I thought I was going to be in New England for my entire career. That didn't go as planned. It's kind of one of those businesses, you have to be ready for anything. You’ve got to be on your toes. You have to be able to react. However the story plays out you have to be ready to run with it.”
Garoppolo also said he hasn't been frustrated with how things have gone this offseason, he just knows he has to take advantage of his opportunities.
“No, not really," he said. "Like my dad was saying, my dad is an electrician, grew up in a blue-collar household — it’s just one of those things you have to roll with the punches. Whatever opportunity presents itself you have to be ready to take advantage of it. That is what I have done my entire career and that is what I am going to keep doing. Like my dad said, nothing is going to be handed to me. Nothing is going to be handed to anyone in this league. You have to go in there and work.”
Garoppolo did say Shanahan and GM John Lynch had open discussions with him this offseason where they let him know they would be drafting a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick.
