Could Jarren Duran land in San Diego?
NEW YORK - It was a night many Red Sox, and Red Sox fans, will want to forget. The 9-6, series-opening defeat at the hands of the Yankees was exactly what the doctor didn't order when it came to changing the narrative about Alex Cora's team.
Marcelo Mayer - and a young man named Jesse from Manhattan - won't want to forget June 6, 2025 any time soon.
For the Red Sox rookie, the date will forever be remembered as when he blasted his first career home run.
"It was a good feeling," Mayer said. "Obviously, it kind of sucks when you're losing, but it’s definitely a moment ill remember for the rest of my life."
For Jesse, it all allowed for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The Yankees fan would be the landing spot for Mayer's 410-foot blast, gathering in the home run with a perfectly-executed catch.
After the game, Jesse and his friends and family were ushered to just outside the Red Sox' clubhouse, where they got a chance to meet Mayer. An exchange was made where the infielder offered up a signed bat and ball for a memento that will be going in his father's office back at home in California.
