Through their first six games, the Patriots have yet to play a turnover-free game.
They have at least one giveaway in every game and multiple turnovers in five of six, including Sunday’s 26-19 win over the Jets.
New England is one of three teams to have committed a turnover in every game this season, joining the Los Angeles Chargers (0-6) and Las Vegas Raiders.
The Patriots have turned the ball over 13 times (seven interceptions, six fumbles), the second-most in the league behind the Chargers’ 15. Their minus-6 turnover differential ranks 30th in the NFL, ahead of only the 2-4 Atlanta Falcons (minus-7) and 2-4 Indianapolis Colts (minus-8).
On a per-drive basis, New England leads the NFL at 21.2%, with the Chargers (20.0%) the only other team above 20%.
Both of the Patriots’ turnovers Sunday against the Jets led to field goals for New York. In total, New England’s turnovers have directly resulted in 33 points for its opponents.
It’s been a problem for the Patriots, who, after Sunday’s win, are now 3-4 in regular-season games under Mike Vrabel when losing the turnover battle.
During his weekly appearance on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, Vrabel, who evaluates games by looking at “The good, the bad, and the s--- that gets you beat,” with turnovers certainly falling into the last category, made his frustration with the Patriots’ turnover issues clear (full interview below).
“We turn the ball over at a historic rate, and it’s ridiculous,” Vrabel said bluntly. “It’s an embarrassment.”

Five different Patriots (Drake Maye, Rhamondre Stevenson, Corey Kiner, TreVeyon Henderson and DeMario Douglas) have turned the ball over this season. Wide receivers Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown have also fumbled, but neither lost the ball.
The Patriots’ ball security will be tested Thursday night against a Bears defense that has found ways to force turnovers in bunches, recording three turnovers in three different games this season. That includes Sunday’s 31-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons, who fumbled four times and lost three of them.
“It’s a physical football team,” Vrabel said of the Bears. “So we better be prepared.”
