Jimmy Garoppolo is the name and story that won’t go away when it comes to the Patriots quarterback position.
Just days after one ESPN reporter declared that New England was “not pursuing” its former second-round pick and backup quarterback, another of the four-letter network’s talents is telling a different tale.
According to Dianna Russini, via an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up as transcribed by the Bleacher Report, the Patriots continue to have “consistent” interest the current 49ers quarterback Garoppolo.
"I've talked to a bunch of people in the league about this, and enough people I trust have told me that the Patriots' interest in Jimmy Garoppolo has been consistent,” Russini said, via Bleacher Report. “This has got to be more San Francisco willing to make the deal and, of course, New England having the right amount of picks and money to get Jimmy to bring him back. And that's really what it's going to come down to."
The rumors, speculation and comments regarding Garoppolo’s future in San Francisco have been endless since the 49ers traded up last week with the Dolphins, acquiring the No. 3 overall pick in next month’s NFL Draft that will be used on a quarterback.
Garoppolo’s days in the Bay Area may indeed be numbered, but when exactly that time ends and where he ends up remains very much in doubt.
But, according to ESPN, the Patriots and Bill Belichick are still showing interest in brining Garoppolo back to New England.
At least that’s today’s report, for whatever it’s worth.
