Patriots place Christian Barmore on NFI list due to 'recurring symptoms'

Christian Barmore has unfortunately suffered a setback. The New England Patriots announced on Thursday afternoon that they have placed the defensive tackle on the reserve non-football illness list after he experienced "some recurring symptoms that required further evaluation."

Barmore, 25, was originally diagnosed with blood clots in late July and missed the first 10 games of the season as a result. He returned to game action in mid-November and had played the last four games.

"The New England Patriots are placing defensive lineman Christian Barmore on the reserve non-football illness list after he experienced some recurring symptoms that required further evaluation," the team said in a statement. "We appreciate everything Christian did to return to the team this season, but our top priority is Christian's health and wellbeing. We know that he will continue to receive tremendous care and we want to ensure that he gets the time he needs to come back stronger than ever."

Barmore was originally drafted in the second round (38th overall) in 2021 and is in his fourth NFL season, all spent with the Patriots. He had his best season in 2023 when he led the team in sacks (8.5) and quarterback hits (16).
