Most of us thought we would never see another NFL team rival what the New England Patriots did in the 2000s and 2010s under Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid, might already be mounting a challenge.
The Chiefs came from behind to beat the San Francisco 49ers, 25-22, in overtime in Super Bowl LVIII Sunday night to capture their second straight title and third in the last five years. They are the first team to repeat since the Patriots in 2003 and 2004, and they’re now halfway to the Patriots’ total of six Super Bowls.
Mahomes threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score on a three-yard pass to Mecole Hardman. He also ran for 66 yards. Mahomes’ three championships at age 28 are the same number Brady had at that age.
The Greg Hill Show reacted to another Chiefs Super Bowl Monday morning, with host Greg Hill admitting that the Patriots dynasty’s accomplishments “could be in jeopardy at some point.” Listen to the full segment above.
“I want the Patriots to be considered the best of all time forever,” Hill said. “…I have to acknowledge that the guy [Mahomes] has been Brady-like when it comes to these games. He goes down and wins you a football game when you need to win a football game. They are set up… it sounds like Mr. Swift [Travis Kelce] is gonna play again, another year. He was there predicting they’re gonna win three in a row.
“So, it sounds to me like they’re gonna have a chance to be very relevant for the next bunch of years, that Chiefs team. It doesn’t look like – even though he was bullied by Travis Kelce – it doesn’t look like Andy Reid is going anywhere either. So, it seems like the dynasty, the legit dynasty here, could be in jeopardy at some point.”
Producer Chris Curtis, one of the biggest Brady fans around, acknowledged that Mahomes has been “Brady-like” and was the single biggest difference on Sunday.
“This was Brady-like,” Curtis said. “If you put Mahomes on the Niners, it’s a three-touchdown win for San Francisco. The rosters aren’t even in the same stratosphere when it comes to talent.”
