The Patriots are beefing up their defense in free agency, according to NFL media insider Ian Rapoport, who reports they are signing linebacker Robert Spillane.
"Sources: The Patriots are signing standout LB Robert Spillane, the former Raider," Rapoport posted on Bluesky Monday afternoon.
The deal will be for three years, $37 million, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Spillane, 29, played all 17 games for Las Vegas in 2023 and 2024. He recorded 91 solo tackles, 67 assisted tackles, and two sacks with the Raiders last season. The deal will also reunite Spillane with former Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, although McDaniels will be on the other side of the ball as offensive coordinator in New England this year.
He entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2018, when Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was in his first year coaching that organization.
