gresh and fauria react to jack jones being released by patriots
And the hits just keep coming.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garofolo, the Patriots are waiving cornerback Jack Jones. (UPDATE: The Patriots later officially announced the move.)
Jones played just 10 snaps during New England's loss to the Colts on Sunday in Germany and had started each of their last two contests on the bench. According to multiple reports, the cornerback was late to the Patriots' team hotel last weekend prior to their game versus the Commanders, which led to discipline. During both apparent benchings, Jones could be seen unengaged with teammates and instead sitting on the bench draped in either a towel or a jacket.
A 2022 fourth-round pick, there had been much more bad than good during Jones' tenure in Foxborough. The former USC Trojan and Arizona Sun Devil was suspended at the end of his rookie season for reportedly being late to rehab sessions after being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
After putting said incident behind him, Jones had a promising Spring with the Patriots before running into more trouble. The cornerback was arrested in June while trying to leave Boston following the team's offseason program for reportedly having two loaded firearms in his carry-on luggage at Logan Airport. Those charges were eventually dropped in early September after he agreed to one year of pre-trial probation and 48 hours of community service.
Jones began the 2023 season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury but returned to the Patriots lineup in Week 7. He played 51% of snaps against the Bills and 58% of snaps against the Dolphins, but his tardiness last Saturday led to just a 38% snap-share against the Commanders, and ultimately culminated with 10 snaps on Sunday in Germany and his release on Monday.
The Patriots now enter their bye week with one less player on their roster, but also one less distraction in their locker room.
