Super Bowl champion and three-time captain Ja'Whaun Bentley stunned Patriots fans Friday, posting a message on X thanking them for their support and saying farewell after seven seasons.
"New England!!Thank You for Everything!! It’s Been a Blessing," the linebacker posted.
According to multiple reports, Bentley is the latest Patriots captain to be released, after New England parted ways with center David Andrews earlier this month.
With his departure, special teamer Joe Cardona is the only active player remaining from the dynasty eras.
Bentley, 29, has played his entire NFL career in New England. In 2023, he posted a career-high 114 combined tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 12 quarterback hits. Unfortunately an injury took him out for the bulk of the 2024 season.
The Patriots will free up $4.6 million in cap space with the transaction.
