6 rings One-Off Wednesday: What should be next for Patriots as New League Year officially opens?
The Patriots had their eyes wide open for a big fish in free agency. Unfortunately, they didn't take the bait.
While New England was one of two teams reportedly in on wide receiver Calvin Ridley, a mystery team has swooped in and signed the veteran pass catcher. According to multiple reports, Ridley has signed a four-year, $92 million deal with the Tennessee Titans. $50 million is fully guaranteed.
Ridley was as first-round pick (26th overall) of the Falcons and spent five seasons in Atlanta, earning a Second-Team All-Pro non in 2020. After taking time away towards the end of the 2021 season due to mental-health concerns, he was suspended for the entirety of the 2022 season for betting on NFL games. Ridley was then traded to the Jaguars at the trade deadline.
In his first season in Jacksonville, the 6-foot-1 pass catcher tallied a 76-catch, 1,016-yard, eight-touchdown campaign alongside quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He now goes inter-division to the Titans.
As for the Patriots, their search for a No. 1 wide receiver continues.
