The Patriots are now a punch line.

At the end of “Monday Night Football,” Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas intercepted Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield to cement Green Bay’s 24-12 victory. But for some reason, Douglas tossed the backwards on his way to the ground. Fortunately, Packers safety Adrian Amos was there to corral the loose ball, and end the game.

Afterwards, Douglas told reporters he realized his mistake the moment the ball left his hands. He invoked the Patriots’ disastrous game-losing lateral against the Raiders to accentuate his point. “As I was going down, I underhanded it and then I seen it hit the ground. And I was like, 'Damn, this is about to be like the Raiders and Patriots,” he said.

Douglas said his teammates were flabbergasted.

“They were just like, 'What the hell are you on?,’” he said.

The Packers can laugh about Butler’s gaffe, because it was a meaningless mistake in a 12-point win. The Patriots, meanwhile, lost the game on Jakobi Meyers’ blunder.

After 20 years of invincibility, opposing players and coaches are starting to take some shots at New England. Earlier this month, Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph — “time of his life!” guy — said the Patriots’ offense operates like a defensive coach is calling the plays.

The Patriots are a rudderless ship, and the NFL world notices.
