The Patriots' search for their next QB1 unofficially begins on Wednesday as, according to SI's Albert Breer, director of scouting Eliot Wolf, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, and quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney are in Southern California for USC QB Caleb Williams' Pro Day.

After not participating at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, Williams will hold a workout in front of scouts, coaches, and executives on Wednesday, throwing on the record for the first time since the Trojans' 38-20 loss to UCLA on November 18. Fellow teammates and draft prospects Brenden Rice and Tahj Washington are among the wide receivers set to catch passes.

Williams is widely considered the top prospect in the 2024 class and is expected to be selected by the Chicago Bears with the No. 1 overall pick. The Patriots hold the No. 3 selection.

The Pro Day tour will continue on later this week and into next for New England's contingent. Wolf, Van Pelt, and McCartney will reportedly be joined by head coach Jerod Mayo (among others) at Michigan's Pro Day on Friday and both UNC and LSU's Pro Day's next week. The headliners? Quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels.
