Pass protector. Run blocker. Star recruiter?

In a tweet posted Monday, Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown lobbied for Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones to join Brown’s current team, the Patriots. Mind you this might be effective emotionally for Jones, helping him know he’s wanted in Foxboro. However, the decision isn’t really his, seeing as Jones isn’t a free agent (he has two years remaining on his contract with the Falcons) and will need to be traded for. Still, it’s nice to know you’re wanted. Especially by someone who can provide more time for a quarterback to throw it to you, or move people out of the way for you.

Rumors have been swirling for days as to who might trade for Jones, Interest picked up Monday now that he’s made it known he wants out of Atlanta, with the Patriots becoming the betting favorite. Could Brown’s appeal help persuade Jones to lobby for a trade to New England? Certainly can’t hurt! But while unlikely, Jones does likely knows the Patriots have expressed interest or at least discussed trading for the star receiver, so a trade to New England might not come as a surprise. Probably not as much as being called to discuss your work situation on live TV.

We’ll keep an eye out for any other Patriots, current or former, hoping publicly that Jones joins the team. (It's not likely Jones will be taking many phone calls from former players anytime soon.)
