The Patriots’ draft plans might have been a little simpler had they won (lost?) the strength of schedule tiebreaker against the Commanders. Then they would have been locked into the second overall pick and could take whichever one of the top two quarterbacks – Caleb Williams or Drake Maye – was still available.
Instead, New England has the third overall pick, which complicates things a little bit. If those two quarterbacks do go one-two, the Patriots could take the consensus best player available: Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Or if they still want to get a quarterback, they could target LSU’s Jayden Daniels or even Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., potentially trading down in the process.
Making his weekly appearance on The Greg Hill Show, Patriots and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ty Law explained what he would do. Listen to the full interview above.
“If he’s still there, I’m getting Marvin Harrison Jr.,” Law said. “Everybody says quarterback. I’m telling you, you might be able to go out there and find a Dak Prescott [who was a fourth-round pick]. I’m gonna leave Tom Brady off the table because that’s a unicorn, 199, but if you go out there and get a serviceable quarterback that won’t turn the ball over and you get Marvin Harrison Jr., he’s gonna help whatever quarterback you have. I promise you that. That’s one of those picks that would be hard to pass up.”
A Michigan man like Law – who made sure to celebrate the Wolverines’ national championship during the interview – picking a Buckeye should tell you just how highly thinks of Harrison Jr.
Harrison Jr. is the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound receiver topped 1,200 yards receiving and caught 14 touchdowns in each of his last two collegiate seasons.
