AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The City of Austin has issued a city wide boil water notice due to a power loss at the Ulrich Water Treatment Plant, the city's largest water treatment facility.
Austin Energy crews worked with Austin Water to restore power at the site and crews are working to bring the plant back online.
The latest city-wide notice follows a separate notice issued earlier Wednesday afternoon affecting two Southwest Austin neighborhoods. According to Austin Water officials, the city's water system has seen demand increase by 250 percent over the past 24 hours - a likely result of burst pipes at homes and businesses, water main breaks, and increased demand from dripping faucets.
According to the city, any water recovered from plumbing systems should be brought to a rolling boil and boiled for two minutes prior to drinking or cooking with it, in order to ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes that may be present in the water supply.
