As the local healthcare district for Travis County and many surrounding communities, Central Health strives to improve the health care system in a number of ways.

Central Health provides affordable health care and resources to those who are low income and uninsured. In fact, one in nine Travis County residents with low income relies on Central Health for access to quality care.

The overall Central Health Enterprise includes partnerships with CommUnityCare Health Centers and Sendero Health Plans. And through our own Medical Access Program (MAP), Central Health provides health care coverage for people with low income who aren’t eligible for Medicaid or Medicare.

CommUnityCare

With 27 health centers in and around Travis County, CommUnityCare brings medical, dental, behavioral health and prescription services to those who need it most.

Serving more than 123,000 patients annually, CommUnityCare recently expanded its services through the addition of Carousel Pediatrics in 2018. Now, parents can ensure their kids get high-quality care that includes dental care as well as mental health, speech, physical and occupational therapy services.

Sendero Health Plans

As a non-profit organization, Sendero Health Plans is uniquely positioned to serve the needs of Central Texas residents. Founded in 2011, Sendero provides accessible, personalized healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Through value-added services like telemedicine and outreach to high-risk patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sendero Health ensures that even the most vulnerable populations in Travis County receive best-in-class care.

The Medical Access Program (MAP)

A health coverage program for Travis County residents with low income, Central Health’s Medical Access Program (MAP) has seen tremendous growth over the past several years. MAP offers qualifying individuals and families full health coverage for doctor visits, dentist appointments, behavioral health and more.

Central Health also offers MAP Basic, which affords fewer benefits, but which is available to Travis County residents who might earn too much to qualify for MAP.

Apply for MAP or MAP Basic Coverage

It’s simple to apply for MAP and MAP Basic. If you’re in need of health coverage, you can apply online or by calling 512-978-8130.
