As things have opened up, the want and need to travel has increased. Wanting to de-stress and relax, can take a negative tone on you and the environment. Now is the time to change the approach of travel for your well-being and benefiting the environment. Instead of going into it like it's something you have to do, which can cause more stress. Change your approach in having unique experiences that are not at the expense of the environment or your health. Here are some helpful tips.
1, Don't travel too far. Local destinations are the perfect way to de-stress, and keep the carbon footprint down.
2. Avoid traveling by plane. The emissions warm up the atmosphere long after the plane lands. A bus, train and even a ship are better ways to travel. Or perhaps an electric vehicle.
3. Skip the hotel and go Glamping. A more luxurious way to camp in nature's surroundings. Glamping Hub has options worth looking into.
4. HVAC - try to not use the air conditioning or heat longer than necessary. Closing the curtains also help.
5. Showering is better than taking a bath. Many times more water is used when bathing. Relaxation with a massage and a shower afterwards would be better for your health & well-being as well as the planet's.
6. Save energy. Just like you do at home, turn off the lights. Don't leave the TV , appliances running / plugged in. Look into finding solar / wind energy accommodations.
7. Ride a gravel bike. Cutting down on petro use and emissions. Get to experience more of the outdoors and the sights to see when cycling.
8. Don't print reservations / confirmations. Save them on your phone. Using less paper. Saving a tree. Use your phone for maps, searching for events, and things to do.
9. Eating vegetarian / vegan, and cutting down / out the meat. Eating more fruits and veggies helps lower the warming of the earth, and the vitamins and minerals are great for your well-being.
10. Using eco-friendly products, such as bamboo, reusable utensils and organic clothing . Avoid products such as single use plastics that are tossed and pollute our water and land.
11. Avoid animal tourism. Circumstances that put animals is uncomfortable / unnatural situations in the name of making a buck. Many times it's more abusive for the animal.
12. Eco-friendly cosmetic products such as cotton towels, bamboo toothbrushes and shampoo bars. Eco-friendly sunscreen. Plastic-free sanitary products. These all make a big difference for your health and the environment
