The Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin will be the first major museum to have a space dedicated to outdoor sound art, thanks to a $5 million gift from Ernest and Sarah Butler.
Sound artist Bill Fontana will open the gallery with "an acoustic portrait of Austin and the Texas Hill Country and relocate hidden sounds of our geologically unique landscape to an inviting civic space." They broke ground in March of 2021 and completion is expected in late 2022.
