AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The Salvation Army is pleading for help from the community with collecting winter coats and clothing for area children in need.
Major Lewis Reckline says the Army's supplies of warm coats, winter clothing, and sturdy shoes for boys, girls, babies, toddlers, and elementary aged children have been significantly depleted, with many families still in need.
Volunteers will be accepting donations at 6510 South Congress between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. each day. Officials are hoping to collect as many as they can before Friday.
The Army's Angel Tree program is also seeing a record number of families seeking assistance this year. Volunteers are needed to sort and dispense Christmas gifts for those children in need.
