During the Fourth of July Parade in Squantum this past Sunday, there was a scary moment, that ended with a miracle.
The parade has been going on for 110 years, and I have been lucky enough to be a part of a few myself. It is always the happiest day in the neighborhood.
The man was driving a float, carrying children, and had reached the end of the route when bystanders noticed something was wrong.
He had slumped over in the drivers seat - he was suffering from a heart attack. That's when a group of bagpipers jumped into action.
The Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes and Drums band is a volunteer group of firefighters from 22 local fire departments who have appeared in the Squantum parade since I can remember.
According to The Boston Globe, the band took maybe 30 seconds to enter the truck's cabin, stop the car, shut off the motor, and pull the man down to the street to begin chest compressions.
Thank god with the second shock from the defibrillator, the man's pulse came back. He was awake and responsive by the time the EMT's arrived.
