Gemanique is a middle school English teacher at the oldest day school for the deaf, Horace Mann School for the Deaf. Her middle schoolers are all deaf or hard of hearing, but the similarities end here! Her students come from many different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. Some have been at the school since they were 3, and others have just arrived with interrupted education or little access to language in their home country. Most are considered English Language Learners. Many have disabilities such as visual impairments, developmental delays, or emotional/behavioral challenges. Some students sign, some talk, some use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), and some do a little of everything. NOT ONLY THAT - They don't have a permanent building and are starting from scratch... AGAIN. So let's CLEAR HER LIST!
