The Nickelodeon actress came out in January, and since then has been an inspiring voice for young teens and tweens who are discovering their queer identities.
The former Dance Moms star has been candid about her long-distance relationship with her girlfriend, Kylie Prew.
The 18-year-old, who is currently on Entertainment Weekly’s new Pride digital cover, said she is trying “so bad” to have a kissing scene between her and a male actor removed from her new film, Bounce.
Bounce is being produced by Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and being directed by To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before director, Susan Johnson. The holiday film is adapted from Megan Shull’s young adult book with the same title.
In a comment to EW Siwa said, “I'm madly in love and I do not want to kiss another human. Especially because it's a man.” She adds that her fans will also have a difficult time separating her from her on-screen persona, Franny.
“That's what they look at me as, not some character, not some fictional thing. And so it's going to be a little weird,” explained JoJo.
Additionally, Siwa shared that she is not into the whole idea of the kissing scene being viewed by the public, saying, “I'm not about it. I'm trying to get it pulled so bad. It'll happen. It'll get pulled."
People reached out for a comment from Westbrook Studios, however, the studio’s spokesperson has not responded.
