It all started with TikTok videos from the influencer, where she is seen singing Paramore’s “Aint It Fun,” and where she is lip-syncing to Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” Now Siwa is opening up about her personal life and sharing details that will continue to make her a role model for LGBTQ+ kids everywhere.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show JoJo talks to Jimmy Fallon about her current long-distance relationship. The 17-year-old gushes that she is in a relationship with “the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world."
The singer and dancer who has over 32 million followers on TikTok says that after tweeting the image of herself wearing the “Best Gay Cousin Ever” T-shirt she received a widespread outpouring of support from across the internet.
Siwa knew that sharing that image would finally confirm the speculation that had been flying since January 20th, when the artist teamed up with members of the TikTok Pride House to post a video set to Paramore’s “Aint it Fun.” In the video, JoJo is seen lip syncing the line “now you’re one of us.” She says, "I was like, ‘I think this TikTok that we're doing to 'Ain't It Fun,' I think this is going to out me.’” She continues, “And I was like, ‘I don't really mind because it is true, I do have the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world. It's not something I'm ashamed of, I just haven't shown the Internet yet.’”
It was while on Facetime with her girlfriend that JoJo decided she should tweet the image of the “Best Gay Cousin Ever” T-Shirt. Siwa says that her girlfriend was “super encouraging” and told her just to go for it.

“My thing with coming out, is it can be a very scary thing, you know of course not everybody in the world is going to accept it right now, but there are so many people that are going to accept it right now,” shares the former Dance Moms star. She adds, “Even if there are a million people… that don’t except it, there’s 100 million that do, but also I don’t want it to have to be such a big thing, like what am I going to do, like have a coming-out party!? No, it’s just who I am.”
Siwa concludes, "I was like, 'well, technically, that was a really big risk that I took posting that.'" She continues, "But if I lost everything I created because of being myself and because of loving who I want to love, I don't want it. That's not what I want if I can't love who I want to love. That's one of the most important things to me."
